William Higgs, 93, of New Haven, departed this life August 24, 2009. He was the husband of Alyce Higgs.
Born in New Haven, CT, February 11, 1916, he was the son of the late William and Alice Higgs.
Prior to retiring, he was employed at Acres Trucking Co. as a Truck Driver and at Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield as a Security Guard.
He was a member of Widow’s Son Lodge #1 Prince Hall Affiliation.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Marjorie “Margie” Carlton (John) of New Haven; a sister, Thalithan “Tea” Higgs of New Haven; grandchildren, Alphonso Flemming (Deborah) of West Haven and Kenneth Flemming (Evelyn) of Las Vegas, NV; five great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; a niece, Judith Campbell (Louis) of New Haven; a great niece, Andrea Campbell of New Haven; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Frederick and Joseph Higgs and a sister, Helen Higgs.
A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Higgs’ life and legacy will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at 6:00 P.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Online guestbook available at www.curvinkcouncil.com
