Two months after a murder at the same spot, bullets flew again at a Derby Avenue Dunkin Donuts, striking one person in the head and another in the foot Wednesday evening, according to police.
The victim struck in the head was in critical condition as of Wednesday night, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery.
The 5:40 p.m. shooting in the West River neighborhood was the fourth shooting incident in the city in less than 24 hours.
Here’s what happened, according to Lt. Ray Hassett, the local top cop, who responded to the scene:
At about 5:40 p.m. a call came in: gunshots fired at Derby and Norton. En route to the scene, police were told someone had been hit. Upon arrival, cops found two shooting victims inside Dunkin Donuts. One injury — a bullet in the foot — was non-life-threatening. The other was more serious — a bullet to the head.
Both victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. Hassett said they are young men, but declined to provide further information.
Police found ballistic evidence at the scene. The glass door of the store had been shot out. The men were apparently shot at from outside the building. The area was still a closed-off crime scene as of 10 p.m. Wednesday.
A man was killed at the Dunkin Donuts on Dec. 15, almost exactly two months prior to Wednesday’s shooting.
Three Other Shootings Since Tuesday Night

A 19-year-old was shot in the leg on Orchard Street on Wednesday afternoon, the third shooting victim since 10:30 Tuesday night, according to police.
All three gunshot wounds were non-life-threatening. No arrests were made.
The Orchard Street shooting was called in at around 2:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Max Joyner (pictured above). Police found a man between Goffe and Dickerman streets. He had taken a bullet in the right leg, Joyner said. The 19-year-old had been walking south on Orchard when he heard gunshots coming from a passing vehicle, Joyner said.
Police found six shell casings from what appeared to be a .380 automatic, Joyner said.
At shortly after 3 p.m., Joyner was on the scene along with detectives. Police had Orchard blocked off at Dickerman and Goffe.
Charles Jogwe, who lives near the corner of Dickerman and Orchard, was outside in flip-flops and a winter jacket, taking in the action. He said he was cooking chicken in his kitchen at 2:30 p.m., when he heard a gunshot. He didn’t go out immediately. When he did, he saw a guy sitting on his neighbor’s lawn, with “a lot of blood by the knee.”
“It’s sad. It’s really sad,” said Jogwe.

In other police news, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:
A man was shot at 722 Elm St. at 10:25 p.m. on Tuesday. Police responded to a gunshot alert from the ShotSpotter system. They found an 18-year-old who had been shot in the right shoulder.
Later, at 12:49 a.m. on Wednesday, a 36-year-old walked into the Hospital of St. Raphael with gunshot wound to the foot. He said he was walking on Chapel Street near Day Street when he heard six shots and realized he’d been hit.
