Police Make Arrest In Club Murder

Police Friday made an arrest in connection with a murder that occurred Aug. 11, 2013.

The murder occurred inside the now-defunct Cheetah Club at 169 East St. A gunman fired at 1:23 a.m. into a room crowded with hundreds of people attending a rap performance. He hit Torrance Dawkins of Waterbury, who had turned 22 at midnight, in the head and killed him.

Detective David Zaweski Friday obtained an arrest warrant for the man police say was the shooter, according to department spokesman Officer David Hartman. The arrestee, a 24-year-old man from Brooklyn, is already in federal custody for assaults, burglaries, weapons crimes, and robberies committed in New York; he is being held on $1 million bond.
