After a woman was pulled into the bushes in broad daylight on Bradley Street, a man driving by heard her screams and leaped out to help her.
The driver helped stop an attempted rape. Police showed up and arrested the assailant.
Here’s what happened, according to a neighbor’s account, and Officer David Hartman:
On Saturday at about 12:30 p.m., a young woman was walking near Trumbull Street when a man attempted to rape her.
The attacked had been following the woman for several blocks. He had slapped her buttocks.
On Trumbull Street, the man pulled her into a yard, pushed her to the ground, and got on top of her. The woman started screaming.
A man driving by heard the woman’s screams and got out of his car to stop the attack. A half-dozen cops arrived immediately, chased the assailant down and arrested him for attempted sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery, and larceny.
Several other neighbors responded to the cries as well.
