Eight New Haven arts projects were awarded state grants for their collaboration and involvement with the local community.

The Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) doled out a total of $29,000 to eight New Haven individuals and groups for projects through the Regional Initiative Arts Grants (REGI) program. The program targets small projects that increase community access to the arts; applicants can be artists, non-profits, public schools and parent teacher organizations.

The eight grants were awarded in partnership with the Arts Council of Greater New Haven.

The vitality of New Haven’s arts community is evident in so many successful applications for these grants, and we congratulate all those whose ingenuity and motivation brings this funding to bear to generate new inspiration for artistic expression,” Mayor Harp said in a release Tuesday.

LGBTQ+ Youth Kickback received $4,000 for its #SpeakForYrslf project, which offers opportunities for queer and trans young people to share stories and work on interactive activities on their experiences in New Haven.
