Crash Ties Up Traffic For 5 Hours

A driver failed to heed a cop at a traffic stop — and subsequently crashed into another driver’s car, causing a busy intersection to close for five hours.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Forest Road (a state road) and Edgewood Avenue at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Here’s what happened, according to a report filed by state police:

A Woodbridge cop had been chasing a 42-year-old West Haven man into New Haven after failing to get the driver to stop for an alleged motor vehicle violation.

While attempting to elude” the cop, the driver cruised into the Edgewood-Forest intersection and crashed into another car, in which a driver and two passengers were traveling.

The crash caused air bags to deploy in both cars. The occupants of both cars were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The state police’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating the crash and the events leading up to. Witnesses are asked to contact State Trooper Albert Gorski at (203) 630‑5639.
