Elm City Y” Comes To 900 Chapel

The YMCA has opened a second downtown New Haven branch at the 900 Chapel St. office/apartment building across from the Green.

The Y has bought the assets of the New Haven Fitness center that has operated on the building’s second floor for the past seven years. It will continue to run an exercise center there. The center’s current members will become YMCA members and have access to other Y locations, including (at set hours) the pool at the center at 50 Howe St. (The location otherwise serves mostly young people.)

Tyler McCauley, who has run the 900 Chapel fitness center, will stay on as executive director. The center will be named after his grandfather, the late YMCA leader Duke Faubert.

The new Elm City Y will allow us to work with more people in battling the terrible consequences of an unhealthy lifestyle,” such as obesity and diabetes, Central Connecticut Coast YMCA board chair Dan O’Donnell stated in a release. Click here to read the full release.
