Hit & Run Driver Sought

Police are on the hunt for the driver of an older-model white Mitsubishi Eclipse with dark tinted windows and a rear spoiler” and cracked front windshield” who critically struck a pedestrian.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. Saturday on Whalley Avenue.

Eyewitnesses told police — and evidence at the scene seemed confirm — that the driver struck the pedestrian as he was attempting to cross Whalley Avenue outside the marked crosswalk,” according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman. The driver then fled down Blake Street, and witnesses lost sight of the vehicle.

The driver is wanted on a felony evading charge, and possibly other charges.

The victim, meanwhile, a 17-year-old from Bridgeport, was being treated at Yale-new Haven Hospital for life-threatening injuries.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 203 – 946-6316.

We would appreciate anyone in the collision & auto-body or auto glass replacement business to be on the lookout for the above described vehicle and report anyone looking to repair it,” Hartman added in a release.
