Cops had to break up a fight Monday morning among two rival groups of traveling iPhone purchasers looking to stock up on new product to resell in China.
That’s the word from police spokesman Officer David Hartman.
Hartman said city and Yale cops have responded to “several” reports of “fights and ill-behaved line waiters” among people waiting to buy the newest iPhone that went on sale this past week at the Apple Store on Broadway. Worldwide, Apple sold 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 models in three days.
One such fight at the New Haven store involved “over a dozen people” shortly before 10 a.m. Monday, according to Hartman. Police arrested three people on charges of disorderly conduct, interfering, and disorderly conduct.
“The problems seem to surround two rival groups of Chinese men and women who traveled here and to many other Apple stores to buy as many iPhones as the stores allow per purchaser,” Hartman reported. “It has been reported to us the groups resell the phones in China for a significant mark-up ($3,000 to $4,000). These rival groups have been challenging each other over their places in line. At times these challenges have resulted in violence.”
I noticed this on Saturday.. It's happening at stores all over the NorthEast.

The best part was the food trucks that pulled up to make some quick business!
