The Rev. Boise Kimber — who has taken a public stand in a series of recent controversies in town — defended his positions on policing, the fire department, and the public schools in a lively exchange Thursday on WNHH’s “Dateline New Haven” program.
He expanded on his argument that whatever polls and police no-confidence votes say, keeping Chief Dean Esserman in his job makes the most sense for the city. He attacked the police union for representing suburban interests, and called for more cops of color.
He also criticized the fire union for running Acting and once-future Fire Chief Ralph Black out of town; he called on the next fire chief to “put theri foot down” in dealing with the union. He argued the mayor shouldn’t form a committee to vet candidates and make suggestions for whom she should pick as fire chief. “If I were mayor, I would never give my power to committees,” he said.
And Kimber criticized a call by retired administrators to dump the schools superintendent, saying they haven’t advanced an alternative plan for how to run the schools.
He got pushback on the program, as well. Click on or download the above sound file to hear the full program; feel free to post comemnts below.
It is my opinion if Reverend Kimber wants to weigh in on political issues pertaining to state and government then why doesn't he run for a political office instead of trying to always try to fashion himself as a political broker and mover shaker?
Reverend Kimber it's too bad that you can not put aside your own personal needs to look at the total picture of who Chief Esserman is or perhaps you probably already know and you are both cut from the same ideological cloth.
You and Chief Esserman have one thing definitely in common. That is you both of you will never know what it is really like to be a part of two of the oldest and proudest professions on the face of this earth in a police officer or fire fighter.
When I was active in sports and played the game we had names for individuals like you. We called them "Monday morning quarterbacks or lockeroom sniffers.". I'm being kind with the real name for the last identification.
So Reverend Kimber your endorsement of Chiief Esserman or the NHFD does not mean anything to the brave men and women who went through the process and training to have a badge pinned on their chest whether it be a police officer or firefighter.
Keep in mind being that you want to be Chief Essermans mouth piece or sponsor understand this, he knows that he can never tell any brother/sister police officer on the face of this great planet that he is a real police officer. How did we say this in college Reverend Kimber and you know this saying,, "Perpetrating the fraud".
