Man Pleads Guilty To Firearm/Ammo Charuges

A New Havener pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Terence Garrett, 46, of New Haven, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Hartford federal court to the possession charge. The following is an account of the investigation from the U.S. Attorney’s office:

According to court documents and statements made in court, law enforcement received information that Garrett was selling heroin out a Shelton Avenue apartment, and that he had a firearm. On Oct. 13, 2016, investigators conducted a court-authorized search of the apartment and seized a .25 caliber pistol loaded with five rounds of ammunition. Investigators also seized 12 bags of heroin and a digital scale. Garrett was arrested at that time.

His criminal history includes 11 felony convictions, including two convictions for possessing a firearm without a permit, and two convictions for carrying a dangerous weapon. He is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant on July 19, 2017, at which time he faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years. He has been detained since his arrest.
