New Haven’s new public works director said the city should be a leader in the delivery of public services in the region. To that end he wants to see the department get back to basics.

Jeffery Pescosolido (pictured), who began the job last week, was officially anointed the new director at a Tuesday City Hall press conference.

Chief Administrative Officer Michael Carter said that Pescosolido was chosen over more than 25 other candidates because he knows operations and he knows how to manage people.”

Pescosolido said his goal is to build on the base that the department has established and improve delivery of the services it provides and continuing to prioritize educating the public.

Mayor Toni Harp said with Pescosolido on board the city will be able to handle more sidewalk maintenance and the upkeep of some of the city’s smaller streets. We will still have to contract work out, but doing more in-house means we actually get more work done.”
