There are no news breaks on the worldwide web. Right?

Well, in this corner of the web, there will be: For the first time in our nine years of publication, the Independent’s unplugging for two weeks.

We checked the assignment desk. (See above video.) Nothing much to report for now.

So no new stories will appear on the until after Labor Day. We’re taking a break! Recharging, while we bring in some new voices to the news room.

In the meantime, we’ve filled the home page with some old favorites among the 18,000 or so stories we’ve published to date. In case you’d like a news fix in our absence.

Enjoy the rest of August! And if you miss us while we’re taking a break, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to help this not-for-profit news source pay the bills.

Bonus tracks?: Below are some old disintegrating compost-heap reports from deep in down in the pile ... er,  archives ...

I can hear it now…the tap-tap-tapping of white shoes on the marble floors of city hall made by stuffed suits scrambling for unqualified mayoral appointments and half-baked laws.
Have a good vacation Paul. Hope the city’s here when you get back.

I so miss the Friday compost heap posts…hope you start that up again!

Enjoy the time off…in the mean time I will wear a path in my rug from pacing that long! :) You are our eyes and ears for real news. I agree with robn…when the cats away the mice will play.

Hope you do a catchup story when you return.
Enjoy!

Fear not, Citizens Television will be running all three channels (26, 27 & 96) that’s 72 hours a day, for all 14 days.
Or i guess you can read The Register, although now that they no longer run “Love Is” with the naked babies, i find no use for it.
