Teen Charged
With Dealing Crack

Police arrested a 17-year-old in an undercover drug bust. He was holding crack, ecstasy, and handgun, police said.

Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:

On Thursday at 11:20 a.m., police from the narc squad conducted a street level buy/bust operation” at 229 Greenwich Ave. in the Hill. The operation was the result of complaints of drug dealing from the house’s front porch. The drug squad was able to buy crack from a 17-year-old in front of the house. When they tried to arrest him, he ran into the house and tried to avoid arrest. Police caught him and found he was holding crack, ecstasy, and a 9 mm handgun with the serial number obliterated. Police found a .357-caliber handgun nearby. The 17-year-old was arrested and charged with firearms and drug charges.

In other police news, according to Avery:

New Haven police helped Hamden police try to locate a man who robbed and stabbed a woman in Hamden. At around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, officers from Dixwell and Newhallville were called in to help Hamden police track the man. After attacking the woman, he had fled into New Haven on Pine Rock Avenue and entered the campus of Southern Connecticut State University. Police checked the area with dogs but were unable to locate the man.

Police found an empty row boat floating in the middle of Quinnipiac River Thursday morning. Police received a call at 1:50 a.m. from a man who was fishing on the Grand Avenue drawbridge. He told police an empty rowboat was floating in the river. The fire department was contacted and the Coast Guard later responded. The Coast Guard determined the boat’s registered owner, who was contacted. He told the Coast Guard the boat had been stolen almost two years ago, but he never filed a report. The Coast Guard turned the boat over to the owner and did not investigate further the possibility of a person overboard.

At 8:48 p.m. on Wednesday gunshots were fired near the corner of Ferry and Pierpont Streets in Fair Haven. A woman told police she was sitting in the rear of the car with a 10- and 1‑year-old while her husband was in a store. She saw a young man fire four or five shots, one of which hit her car. The shooter then fled on foot.
