As New Haveners prepared to vote in a mayoral election Tuesday morning, a little confusion greeted moderators at several polling places.
They tested the machines that scan ballots only to be greeted with a “Power Failure” message.
That happened at a couple of polling stations, including the firehouse on Howard Avenue in Ward 5, according to Democratic Registrar of Voters Sharon Ferrucci.
Some voters who showed up early were concerned they wouldn’t be able to vote. But Ferrucci said no one was turned away. She said the machines have an automatic back-up “auxiliary” mode,” which the moderators used to turn on the juice and start tallying how many people want Mayor John DeStefano to be elected to a tenth two-year term or independent challenger Jeffrey Kerekes to unseat him.
Tenth 10-year term, eh? I know it SEEMS like he's been mayor for 90 years, but I think it's only been 18.
[Note: Thanks for catching that typo.]
