On this day in 1875, the consolidated New Haven and Northampton Railroads opened the new depot near the present Union Station and offered to make land from the site of the old depot available for a city market to make up for “a good part of the life and activity lost by the construction.” Welcome to This Day In Railroad Giveback History as your host Allan Appel and regular time-traveling pal Jason Bischoff-Wurstle of the New Haven Museum take you back.
