Rollover Wreck Sends 4 To Hospital

Firefighters had to remove pieces of a man’s late model Toyota Camry to extricate him from it after it was flipped in a crash at Whalley and West Rock Avenue.

They were called to the scene where the Camry had been in a crash with a late model Ford vehicle at just before noon Thursday.

The impact of the collision between the two cars rolled the Camry onto it’s roof, trapping its driver inside.

Assistant Fire Chief Matt Marcarelli said that once firefighters stabilized the vehicle, they used hydraulic rescue tools to cut away parts of the car and free him.

With 11 firefighters working the rescue, it took only about 15 minutes to extricate the driver from the car. The man was transported to Yale-New Haven hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Marcarelli said.

The driver and two passengers in the other car also were transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
