On the heels of promotions, police sergeants, lieutenants and cops are beginning new assignments, including top cops for the Fair Haven and Hill neighborhoods.
Department brass announced the new assignments this week, following last week’s promotions of 25 cops to higher ranks.
Lt. Darcia Siclari is moving from the records division to assume the district manager post in Fair Haven. She replaced Lt. Herb Johnson, who is moving over to run the Bureua of Indentification. Lt. Rachael Cain has been running that bureau; she moves to run internal affairs.
Two lieutenants — Jason Minardi and Brendan Hosey — will take over the Hill North and Hill South districts, respectively. Captain Holly Wasilewski has been in charge of the Hill for the past seven and a half year.
Wasilewski and Captain Jeff Hoffman are being promoted to two newly created hand-on positions overseeing district managers. Hoffman will be responsible for the western half of the city, including Dwight, the Hill, Westville, West Rock, and Beaver Hills. Wasilewski will oversee downtown, Fair Haven, Dixwell, Newhallville, the Annex, the Heights, and Morris Cove. Assistant Chief Luiz Casanova said he deliberately assigned the two captains outside of districts they’ve run in the past in order to give them experience with other parts of town and “groom them as citywide leaders.”
The department is reviving the former Family Services Unit to oversee missing persons, “special victims” of abuse, and schoolr esource officers. Captain Anthony Duff, who worked in the old unit more than a decade ago, will oversee it now.
Captain Julie Johnson (pictured with Hoffman) is moving from the post of traffic commander to oversee the patrol division. Herformer second-in-command, Lt. Rob Criscuolo, will assume the traffic command.
We have some good officers in New Haven and I hope that the Chief can get past his current challenge and set a better example for his troops. For every bad cop, there are many more protecting and serving the public. We have made strides in our city and we should not brand ALL officers for the crimes of a few. Moreover, good officers should be just as upset when one amongst their ranks dishonor the profession. They should show the courage of Frank Serpico and other officers who have pushed back against the rogues in their midst. This requires courage and integrity which should come with the job.
