Traffic Stop Produces Guns, Drugs, Money

Things got complicated after a simple traffic stop on Tuesday night. A foot chase ensued, then a tasing, followed by two arrests and the confiscation of two guns, $1,500 in cash, and some concealed drugs, according to police.

Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:

Officers DeFonzo and Gartner made a motor vehicle stop at the corner of Grand Avenue and Wallace Street on Tuesday night. There were two men in the car. The passenger jumped out and started to run. Police pursued, tased him, and caught him. The passenger had tried to ditch his coat as he fled. Police found a loaded 32 Keltec Automatic gun in the jacket.

Meanwhile, the driver of the car had $100 on him and drugs in his shoe. Inside the car, police found a loaded 9mm Glock, $1,400 in cash, and drugs. Both men were arrested.

In other police news, according to Avery:

Two officers recovered a car that had been carjacked on Monday Jan. 4. Two arrests were made.

Early Wednesday morning, Officers Folch and McFarland investigated a suspicious vehicle near Read and Shepard Streets. The Acura had been stolen on Monday during a carjacking at Jewell and Onyx Streets. The occupants of the car fled on Wednesday and were caught and arrested by the officers.
