Trevor and Painted Warrior Visit the Green

Two alpacas traveled 67 miles from their cozy home in Stone Bridge Farm to support high school students competing in the World Scholar’s Cup this weekend.

In between finishing a scavenger hunt Friday afternoon, the students crowded around the small pen on the College Street end of the Green and fed hay to the furry grazers. Alpacas are the official mascot of the international academic tournament — the founder Daniel Berdichevsky is also the team’s alpaca-in-chief.”

Denise Curran owns the Griswold farm where Trevor and Painted Warrior live. Painted Warrior, whose coat is burnt-orange from half the neck down and fleece above that, is a more experienced mascot, having attended the group’s New Haven tournaments for a few years.

Trevor, whose dad’s name is Whispering Winds Eye of the Storm and mom’s name is CT Lou Lou, is 7 years old. Painted Warrior’s parents are named Vaccoyo’s Triumph and Gwens. He is 15 years old.
