What Not To Do When You Ram A Police Cruiser

If you ram your Mazda into a New Haven police cruiser, it’s probably a good idea not to:

• Be drunk.
• Have 25-ounce cans of Budweiser Natural Light inside the car, including an open one in the cup-holder.
• Carry a crack pipe.
• Drop an untraceable silver Davis Industries P380 handgun you say doesn’t belong to you, and for which you don’t have a permit.
• Have failed to register your car.

A 58-year-old driver from West Haven and his 60-year-old passenger discovered that at 11:43 a.m. Friday when they rammed into the rear of a cruiser with Detectives Shayna Kendall and Lucille Roche inside.

The driver and passenger were arrested on a variety of charges after police found they had committed all the above violations, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman.

In other police news, according to Hartman:

Police ran after a 22-year-old West Rock man who matched the description of a gunman who’d been threatening patrons at Sam’s Food Mart at 285 Whalley shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday.

They caught up with him, and a struggle” ensued.

At one moment, [the man] turned toward the officers, pulled up his sagging pants, raised his hands to his face and balled his hands into fists. He announced that he didn’t like it when people put their hands on him and with his fists up, began approaching the officers,” Hartman reported. The cops tased, handcuffed, and arrested him. The charges: second-degree threatening, interfering with police and second-degree breach of peace.”
