Three Southern students were trying to find their way back to campus when two guys on bikes robbed them of a cell phone. One student got into more trouble after chasing the muggers, according to police.
Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:
Three Southern Connecticut State University students got off a city bus at the wrong stop on Thursday morning at 12:30. They found themselves on Whalley Avenue and, unsure how to get back to their campus, started walking down Whalley near Whittlesey Avenue. Two males on bikes approached them and took a cell phone. One of the students chased the robbers, but lost track of them. On his way back to Whalley Avenue, he was stuck up by two other males. The student was unsure if they had a gun. He handed over his wallet and cell phone.

Sorry to hear about this. I'm glad nobody got hurt. The sad fact of the matter is that it is unsafe to walk anywhere in New Haven after dark except downtown or select parts of the East Shore and Westville. Believe.
