Body Found in Missing Branford Man’s Car

With Permission

The body of a man found in a car belonging to Jason Czech, 39, of Branford, was discovered Friday in a residential neighborhood in Meriden.

Capt. Geoffrey Morgan told the Eagle that the police have confirmed that the vehicle belonged to Czech who has not been heard from since July 2. His family members reported him missing on July 4 and Branford police issued a missing person’s report seeking the public’s help in locating him on July 6.

Czech was thought to be going to a concert in upstate New York last weekend. But apparently he changed his mind and stayed in Connecticut. In the missing person’s report, Czech was described as 6’2” tall and weighing about 240 pounds.

Czech’s car, a 2003 Honda Accord, with the body inside, was found on Mattabasset Drive in Meriden on Friday afternoon. Czech worked for the IT department at Bristol Myers-Squibb in Wallingford. He lived at 240 Harbor St. in Branford. Police said he also had a secondary address at 9 Country Way, in Madison. Why his car was found in a condo complex neighborhood in Meriden is part of the investigation.

Meriden police went to a block in the area of 71 Mattabasset Drive after they received reports of a dead body seen in a gray Honda Accord.

The body has been sent to the state Medical Examiner for investigation and confirmation of his identity. The medical examiner’s office will determine the cause and nature of death. The body may have been in the car for several days.

We await positive identification,” Capt. Morgan told the Eagle. What we do know is that this was his car.”

Czech’s family has been informed that the car was found and a deceased person was inside, he said. Morgan said after more information is obtained from the medical examiner, Meriden police will continue the investigation.
