The Branford golf team recently suffered a double loss in their matches against Guilford and Hand high schools.

Senior co-captain Cooper Bunton chips one up on the green on the ninth hole.

The matches were held at the Pine Orchard Club in Branford and resulted in Hand winning with a score of 164 followed by Guilford at 173 and Branford trailing at 179. The two loses brought the Hornets record to 6 – 3.

Sophomore Ryan Sember was low man for the Hornets with a 40.

The golf team plays its last regular season match against Lyman Hall today at Pine Orchard Club.

Coach Swirsky informs the three teams of the course rules and regulations prior to the start of the match.

The scores of both the Guilford and Hand teams were the lowest we had against us so far this season”, said Dennis Swirsky, the coach of the Hornets golf team. It’s disappointing as we were 6 – 1 going into the match but we lost to two good teams.” Branford has averaged 177 in their seven previous matches so it’s not that they played poorly.

Senior Michael Integlia practices his putting on the putting green before the match.

But the following day the Hornets rebounded with a score of 174, picking up three more wins against East Haven (198), Wilbur Cross (205) and Career (222) and then on Thursday shot their best score of the year, a 163, in defeating Sheehan (171) and Jonathan Law (182). They increased their record to 11 – 3.

At the Guilford-Hand matches Sophomore Ryan Sember led the Hornets with a nine- hole score of 40 followed by senior co- captain Brandon DeRenzo (pictured) coming in with a 42.

Medalist honors went to Hand’s Justin Freund with a low score of 37.

Senior Tyler Hackett stands between his opponents from Guilford and Hand before teeing off.

Only the top four scores count in the match. The other Hornets who scored were Cooper Bunton, senior co- captain, with a 46 and senior Tyler Hackett (pictured) who came in with a 51.

The SCC tournament takes place, Thursday, May 21 at Race Brook Country Club in Orange.
