Branford’s Sidewalk Sale.

This is a great weekend to be outdoors, especially in four shoreline towns. Branford, East Haven, Guilford and Madison are holding weekend events near or on the town green. Each one is different. There’s a lot to choose from for kids and families

Friday, July 17

A Day at the Beach

The Willoughby-Wallace Library invites you to a day at the beach. Be at the library at 2:30 p.m. and we’ll walk down to the beach and build some Aquaman sand castles to rival Aquaman’s underwater palace in Atlantis!” Bring your own buckets and shovels. Afterwards everyone returns to the library for frozen treats. The address is 146 Thimble Islands Road in Stony Creek.

Wanna Go to the Movies? 

The Willoughby Wallace Library will show Serena” at 7 p.m. Admission: free. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are newlyweds whose passionate whirlwind romance is threatened by blackmail, jealousy and murder in this ravishing period film directed by Oscar winner Susanne Bier.”

Summer Sidewalk Sale

Branford holds its annual summer sidewalk sale along Main Street, across from the Green. Be Loyal to Local is the slogan as shops showcase their goods. Discounts abound.

Bill O’Brien Photography Exhibit

The Branford Arts and Cultural Alliance kicks off its first photography exhibit featuring Bill O’Brien, the town’s unofficial photographer and the Eagle’s sports photographer. The Academy on the Green (pictured) welcomes guests on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. A reception is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Guilford Crafts Expo

At the Guilford Crafts Fair.

Guilford holds its 58th annual Craft Expo at the Guilford Art Center, 411 Church St. The Expo features 180 craft artists, a silent auction, live music and beautiful art and sculpture. Hours are Friday, noon to 9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. General admission is $9. Seniors pay $7 if you are over 65. Kids under 12 and active military personnel admitted free. A multi-day ticket is $15.

A Carnival

East Haven’s Saint Clare’s Church holds a summer Carnival this Friday and Saturday night, beginning at 5 p.m., featuring lots of rides, games, raffles, great food and entertainment. Event takes place on the parish grounds, 234 Coe Ave. 

Saturday, July 18

Summer Food & Supply Drive for Homeless Felines

Branford Compassion Club Feline Rescue and Adoption Center will be holding a Summer Food Supply Drive on Saturday, July 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The all-volunteer feline rescue organization is in particular need of canned and dry cat food, paper towels, Tidy Cat litter, kitchen trash bags and laundry and dish detergents. Items can be dropped off between at BCC Feline Rescue and Adoption Center located at 2037 Foxon Road, North Branford. Go to club’s website for BCC’s complete wish list.

Madison Antiques Show

The 42nd annual Madison Antiques Show will have 75 dealers on the town Green selling everything from clocks to jewelry to dolls. The show gets underway at 9 a.m. Lunch is available. This event is sponsored by the North Madison Congregational Church. Admission: $4.

Sunday, July 19

Outer Island and Art

Outer Island

There will be conversation with Photographer Kelley Fryer from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; Introduction to Watercolor with Wiley Carr from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Ocean Art Activity for Kids from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Leave from Stony Creek dock about half an hour before the event begins.
