Cool Events Here & Elsewhere This Weekend

Well, spring is here, but as everyone knows it is in name only. Regardless, it is time to get out. The town green beckons with a Chili race for the best and that happens outdoors, rain or shine. Indoors, check out Maverick or the great Yale Glee Club or meet up with Jen Payne in Stony Creek. Lots to do this weekend.

Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28

Dr. Doolittle”

The Walsh Intermediate School Musical Theatre Productions will present Dr. Doolittle,” a wonderful musical play this weekend. Students from grades 5 – 8 will perform. All tickets are $10. Friday’s performance is at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday’s performance gets underway at 3 p.m. For tickets call 203 – 418-PLAY (7529). Walsh is located at 185 Damascus Road.

Spring Bake Sale at the Branford Compassion Club 

The Compassion Club is dedicated to feline rescue and adoption. Come by to meet Maverick, the March Cat of the Month. He is looking for a new home and so are many other cats. There are kittens, who are way too little to adopt just yet, but you might stop by and say hello. Meet their Mamas, too. All proceeds of the bake sale will benefit homeless, feral and abandoned cats. The Branford Compassion Club is located in North Branford at 2037 Foxon Road. Event is free and runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Chili Challenge For A Cause

The Shoreline Chamber of Commerce sponsors its popular Chili Challenge on the Branford Green. You get to sample Branford’s finest chili recipes and cast your vote for the best one. Tickets ($10) may be purchased at the Town Green where the event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. (Rain or Shine). For more information call 203 – 488-5500.

Yale Glee Club 

The great Yale Glee Club and the Yale Symphony team up to perform Brahms German Requiem,” a concert they recently performed in Barcelona and Madrid. The concert will be held at Woolsey Hall, at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $3 to $15 and may be purchased at music.yale.edu or 203 – 432-4140. Or they may be purchased in the Woolsey Rotunda.

Easter Egg Hunt Cancelled
The hunt at Sampson Field (near Foote Park) on Melrose Avenue has been rescheduled to April 4 because the fields are soaked. The American Legion, Corcoran Sundquist Post #83, is the sponsor the Robert Marston Easter Egg Hunt. The program will be free for all Branford boys and girls ages 10 and under. LOOK UP! Book Reading

Branford writer Jen Payne will read from her new book and will sign books as well. Jen will lead a conversation about slowing down, reconnecting with nature, the many ways to be mindful, and how the simple act of looking up can create more balance in our lives. This event is sponsored by Seaside Home & Gifts, 172 Thimble Islands Road in Stony Creek. Admission is free. Event gets underway at 2:30 p.m.
