Cool Events This Weekend

Head to the Green for music, plays and plants. Even your pets can get involved this weekend at the town’s version of Woodstock, i.e. Woofstock.

Thursday, August 14

Round Robin Shakespeare

The Blackstone Memorial Library (758 Main St.) invites all teens and adults to participate in a read aloud of Shakespeare’s Pericles.” The event is free and starts at 10 a.m.

Jazz on the Green Concert Series

K.J. Denhert comes to the Green this weekend as part of the Branford Jazz on the Green Concert Series. Denhert has played at many jazz music festivals in her career and has been nominated for several music awards. On Thursday, Denhert will be returning to the Green for another performance. Her music is most commonly described as a combination of jazz and urban folk. The show starts at 6:30 p.m.

Friday, August 15

Ragtime the Musical

The Round Table Players present their production of Ragtime at 7 p.m. at the First Congregational Church on the Branford Green. Tickets are $15 and $10 for seniors and students. There will also be a showing on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. 

Saturday, August 16

Blood Drive

Fortune People Giving Gifts will be hosting a blood drive at St. Mary’s Parish Hall at 731 Main Street. The event, run by the American Red Cross, will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Community Gardens Fundraiser

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, cut flowers, baked goods, and assorted plants will be available for sale on the Branford Green. Proceeds will go to the Branford Community Gardens, a non-profit organization.

Woofstock Festival

The 2nd annual Woofstock Festival will take place from noon to 8 p.m. on the Branford Green. The event benefits the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter. Activities include the Woofstock Hippie Dog Costume Contest, a favorite, Face Painting, a silent auction and more. Although the event is free, there is a $5 recommended donation. The shelter also asks that residents consider donating specific items including footballs and soccer balls, bleach, pet toys, rawhide bones, kitten food, paper towels and more. There will also be live music at the event.
