What to do this weekend? How about hopping over to Guilford to visit the Greene Art Gallery, which has mounted a fine summer art show, or head for a purr-fect feline indoor picnic or visit the Academy on the Green for a unique photography show. And don’t forget some fine cool Jazz on the town Green. It’s summer, after all.

Marsland’s Photos On Display

Head over to the Academy on the Green for the second in the Branford Arts and Cultural Alliance’s tribute to Branford photographers. Last week BACA honored Bill O’Brien, our sports and arts photographer. This week BACA presents a variety of Michael Marsland’s photographs from here and elsewhere. Marsland is Yale’s photographer. The exhibit runs Friday from 4 p.m.to 7 p.m. through Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Come meet Marsland at a reception at the Academy on Friday at 5 p.m.

Nurturing Joy”

The Greene Art Gallery’s summer art show – Nurturing Joy”– opened last week and runs to Sept. 6. The gallery is located at 29 Whitfield St., Guilford. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday to Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday and Monday. The show features returning artists, like Walter Gaffney-Kessel and new artists, too. Stony Creek Museum Exhibit

This summer the museum is presenting a special exhibit entitled: Monumental Granite. Take a look at the history of the Statue of Liberty, the West Point Battle Monument, and local monuments all made of Stony Creek Pink Granite. Curated by Andrew Biagiarelli and Grey Freeman. The museum is located at 84 Thimble Islands Road. Hours: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Fridays Saturdays and Sundays. Call 203 – 488-4014

Summer Feline Fete

No bugs. No sunscreen needed. No weather worries. The Branford Compassion Club has solved the problem by going indoors to celebrate its summer Feline Fete Indoor Picnic fundraiser. A delicious picnic basket supper will be served, with entertainment getting underway at 6:30 p.m. with a barbershop quartet. Buy chances to win really neat prizes in the feline rescue and adoption organization’s version of the popular TV game, Let’s Make a Purr-fect Deal,” hosted by former WTNH anchor Chris Velardi. Event runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Italian American Club, 40 Hamre Lane. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children.

Students Showcase Work At Guilford Art Center

This Guilford Art Center exhibit features work by students who have taken workshops at the centers. The show highlights recent work in all media by students who have taken classes or workshops at the Center in the past two years. The exhibit starts today with a reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and runs through Sept. 6. The gallery is open from Monday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m. All events are free and open to the public. The gallery is located at 411 Church St.

Tabor Blues Band Jams

Wander over to the town green to welcome in August. Jamming begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9:30 p.m. All ages invited.

Third Annual Woofstock on the Branford Green

The perennial Woofstock event, a day of peace and music, includes the Woof Walk, Hippie Dog Costume Contest, all kinds of vendors, all-day music, children’s activities, food trucks, silent auction and raffle, and much more. Take your pooch, dressed up or not to the Green. Donation is $10. The event runs from noon to 8 p.m. and is sponsored by the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter.
