Looks like the weekend will be perfect for the Veterans’ Day Parade, so get out and enjoy the day! If you haven’t already done it, check out the magnificent Stony Creek Quarry – or even explore it again. A church supper and folk music concert – it doesn’t get any better in Branford.

Saturday, Nov. 7

Stony Creek Quarry Tour

Meet at 10 a.m., 90 Quarry Road. The cost is $15. Children younger than 10 are not allowed. For more information, call 203 – 453-3176.

Tellabration at the Library

From 11 a.m. to noon, the James Blackstone Memorial Library is taking part in Connecticut’s Tellabration project, which is celebrating storytelling and creating in all formats.

This year M.J. Moriarty of the Connecticut Storytelling Center has been invited to share stories and creation through improv, movement and participatory activities. Everyone will work together to create a story.This program is meant for children ages 9 and up along with their parents or older siblings. Harvest Supper

The Church of Christ, Stony Creek, will hold its annual supper at 5:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. On the menu is turkey with turnips, mashed potatoes, vegetables, homemade apple crisp, coffee and tea. Branford Compassion Club Jazz Brunch

The Branford Compassion Club hosts Cool Cats Jazz Brunch, a benefit emceed by News Channel 8 anchorman Darren Kramer, featuring the esteemed bassist Jeff Fuller (pictured) and the Premier Jazz Ensemble of the Neighborhood Music School.

The buffet brunch begins at 11:30 a.m. at Pine Orchard Yacht & Country Club, 2 Club Parkway. There is a donation of $45 a person. There will be wine basket raffles, silent auction theme baskets and the chance to enjoy one of the Shoreline’s best brunches, not normally available to the public, at the club, with its stunning views of the Thimble Islands. Proceeds benefit BCC’s mission to rescue, care for and adopt out homeless felines and for operating expenses at its Feline Rescue and Adoption Center, 2037 Foxon Road, North Branford.

Veterans Day Parade
The day begins at 9 a.m. when cemetery wreaths are placed at Center Cemetery and all cemeteries in town; there will be a firing squad salute and Taps” performed by Steve Vacca.The Naval Ceremonies will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the Hubbard Bridge on Montowese Street with a wreath laid on the waters of the Branford River. The parade ceremonies begin at 1 p.m. led by Master of Ceremonies Vincent Giordano, Jr. The parade steps off on South Main Street, heading west.

Friday, Nov. 13

A Paper-Cut Christmas: The Twelve Days of Christmas

Paper-Cut artist extraordinaire Martha Link Walsh will introduce her new book and the beginning of the holiday season at her gallery, 188 North Main St., from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Starting out at Bittersweet Farm, Walsh has maintained a gallery in Branford for 40 years. Simple Gifts at Branford Folk Music Society

The duo plays everything from lively Irish gigs and down-home American Reels to hard-driving Klezmer freilachs and haunting Gypsy melodies, and much more. Concerts begin at 8 p.m. at the auditorium of First Congregational Church. Admission is $15 for non-members, $12 for members, and $5 for children 12 and under. Branford Land Trust Pre-Thanksgiving Walk at the Van Wie Preserve

The Branford Land Trust’s Nature Explorer Program holds its Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Walk at 1 p.m. at the Van Wie Preserve, led by Bill Horne and Matt Reed. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and the refreshing fall weather! Meet at the trailhead at 87 Red Hill Road.
Directions: From Exit 56 on I‑95, go south on Leetes Island Road for 0.1 mile, and turn left (east) onto Red Hill Road. Proceed to #87, which is on the right, and park on the right side of the road. For more information call 203 – 415-1571. For all BLT walks, please wear appropriate dress and comfortable, supportive walking shoes. Bring water. Walking sticks welcome.
