Grab your kayak or canoe for a trip on the Branford River. Or head to the town green for the annual Trinity Church Fair. There will be goodies of all sorts. And welcoming autumn this year are two fall festival weekends, one in East Haven and one in North Haven.

East Haven Fall Festival

The East Haven Fall Festival gets underway today and runs through Sunday, three days of great food, entertainment, carnival rides and a classic car show on Sunday. Click here for details. 

North Haven holds its annual fair, now it its 73rd year, at the fairgrounds at 290 Washington Ave. today, tomorrow and Sunday. There are rock bands as well as animal events, including a horse contest and an oxen-drawing event. There are also eagles and hawks on hand. Admission is $10 today through Sunday with children under 12 free when accompanied by an adult. Parking on the fairgrounds is free. Click here for more information.

The 108th Annual Trinity Church Fair in Branford

The Trinity Church Fair gets underway on the town Green on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Events include a huge silent auction; a Farmer’s Market with homemade baked goods and homegrown produce; good quality treasures; Kidz Korner fun; breakfast and lunch; jewelry and needlecrafts. There will be a stained glass window tours and even two 15-minute organ recitals. The fair supports neighbors in need.

Branford Land Trust Annual Branford River Parade

For the 17th year, kayakers and canoeists from Branford and surrounding communities will celebrate the joy of being out on the beautiful Branford River. (See top photo.)

Boaters should drop boats off behind Branford High School at 185 E. Main St. between 10:30 and 11:15 a.m., driving to the parking lot at Parker Park at Branford Point to leave their cars/trucks and taking the shuttle bus (hired for this event) back to the high school for the noon parade start. (Rain date: Sept. 13). Bring a picnic for you and your family, and join land trust members for lunch at Branford Point at the end of the river journey. Free and open to the public. Sponsored by the Branford Land Trust’s Nature Explorer Program, which coordinates events for adults and families. For more information call 203 – 415-1571.

New Haven Ballet Announces Grand Opening of Branford Studio

New Haven Ballet (NHB) will hold a grand opening of its new Branford Studio on Saturday, Sept. 12, from noon to 3 p.m. The Branford studio will be NHB’s new home on the Shoreline, replacing the Guilford studio at 200 River Walk. The new upscale studio is located at 9 Business Park Drive, at Exit 56 off I‑95. For more information, call the NHB office at 203 – 782-9038.

Jay and Molly at Branford Folk Music Society

The Branford Folk Music Society opens its 2015 – 16 concert series on Sept. 12 with the renowned Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, a duo that exemplifies the heart and soul of American folk and acoustic music. The concert will take place at 8 p.m. in the auditorium of the First Congregational Church of Branford, 1009 Main St. on the Branford Green. Admission for the show will be $20 for the general public, $15 for BFMS members and $5 for children age 12 and under. The society is not taking reservations for the concert. Coloring for adults is reaching cult-like popularity and adult coloring books are on the best seller lists. New books are being published weekly. Mandalas, floral designs, geometrics are all popular. Pencils, markers, crayons — take your pick. If you have books and coloring tools, feel free to bring them.Instructor Sally E. Bahner began coloring 10 years ago and prefers to color with markers.
