Deputy Fire Chief Ron Mullen (pictured) narrowly escaped injury yesterday when en route to an automobile accident on I‑95, a car suddenly cut in front of him on the left lane instead of moving into the right lane.

Mullen’s van hit the driver’s car, but luckily neither man was injured.

Acting Fire Chief Tom Mahoney said Mullen was scratched up a bit, but is otherwise fine.

The good news is he was not injured,” Mahoney told the Eagle.

Mullen was en route to an accident that occurred between exits 56 and 57 on I‑95 N when he was hit somewhere between exits 54 and 55 on I‑95N.

In all three cars were involved in the accident.

The driver of car Mullen hit was not injured and he refused medical help. The driver in front of him was transferred to a medical facility in Guilford with what are believed to be minor injuries, Mahoney said.

As for the first car accident up the road from them, that turned out to be minor in nature, Mahoney said.

Mahoney will be sworn in as acting chief at fire headquarters at 7 p.m. tonight. He cannot officially take the reins as chief until his contract is formally approved by the Board of Finance.
