Town Clerk Lisa Arpin has asked all dogs in Branford to remind their humans to make sure to renew their dogs’ licenses this month.

To do this, the human must go to the first floor Town Clerk’s office at Town Hall, 1019 Main St., on the Branford Green, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday

The dog walker must also bring the dog’s current rabies vaccination certificate (from your veterinarian) and cash or a check to pay for your new license tag. On-time licensing ends on Friday, June 30. A $1 per month late fee begins to accrue on July 1.

The fee is $8 for spayed or neutered dogs and $19 for dogs that are not spayed or neutered. (Note that this town license does not apply to cats. We do not know why.)

When you and your human arrive at the town clerk’s office for your new license, you and not your human will receive a Milk Bone treat. (Remember, dogs should sit first if trained).

Top Dog Contest

And we cannot forget a very special town contest, the Branford 2017 Top Dog” contest. Every dog licensed during June will be entered in a special drawing. The winning dog, picked at random on July 3, will win a gift basket. More important, the winning dog will receive the distinction of wearing Branford’s Tag #1 for 2017.

Naturally, there will be a photo op for the Top Dog whose bio and photo will be displayed on the Town Clerk’s webpage and on the front door of the clerk’s office for the year.

Arpin thanked Simon, the 2016 Top Dog, and his owner Doris for their special year of fame in Branford. We look forward to crowning our new 2017 Top Dog on July 3,” Arpin said.
