Help Keep Our Newsroom Going

Holiday greetings from all of us at the Branford Eagle. We hope you are enjoying the holidays and looking forward to 2014. We certainly are!

As professional journalists, we take great pleasure to know you support our mission. In 2012, The Branford Eagle won 13 awards, including first place in the online general reporting series for its coverage of Tropical Storm Irene’s Aftermath.” The awards were announced in May at the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) annual excellence awards contest.

Our three contributing reporters, Sally E. Bahner, the former editor of the Branford Review; her top reporter, Diana Stricker; and our newest addition, Nancy Barnes, have decades of professional newspaper experience. Marcia Chambers, the editor, has been a reporter for The New York Times, the AP and the National Law Journal. Mary Johnson, our photojournalist, has provided readers with stunning photo coverage.

In recent weeks we have been the first news site to show you draft plans of a proposed new Costco retail store near Exit 56, to introduce you to the new principal at Mary T. Murphy Elementary School, to provide the police report on a bomb threat at Walsh Intermediate School, and to let you know that Wilson Arms will move company operations from Wisconsin to Branford.

Like what you’re reading? Please consider making a tax-deductible donation this holiday season to keep our newsroom going. Please send your contribution in the amount you can afford to: Online Journalism Project, P.O Box 2067, Short Beach Station, Branford, CT 06405. (Checks should be made out to Online Journalism Project.)

Our readers tell us they want the kind of professional coverage that have come to expect and rely upon. As you know, we are part of the New Haven Independent and are a non-profit entity. All donations are tax-deductible. Your generosity is appreciated.
