A body found in a car in a residential neighborhood in Meriden on Friday has been identified as Jason Czech, 39, who lived in Branford and worked for Bristol-Myers Squibb in Wallingford. He was reported missing to Branford police on July 4.
The chief medical examiner’s office told the Czech family yesterday that the cause of death was pending further study and would not be available for six to eight weeks, the Meriden Record-Journal reports.
Capt. Geoffrey Morgan told the Eagle Friday that police had confirmed that the vehicle in which a body was found Friday belonged to Czech. But at that time police were not able to identify the body. Czech had not been heard from since July 2. His family members reported him missing on July 4 and Branford police issued a missing person’s report seeking the public’s help in locating him on July 6.
According to the Record-Journal, police responded to the area of 71 Mattabasset Drive late Friday afternoon after receiving reports of a dead body in a gray Honda Accord parked in the residential neighborhood off Baldwin Avenue. Police told the newspaper that Czech’s cell phone last transmitted from a tower in the Meriden area on Monday, July 4.
Czech had planned to attend a concert in New York over the long holiday weekend but apparently changed his mind and decided to stay in Connecticut. Why he wound up in Meriden in a residential neighborhood where he parked his car is a question not yet answered.
