In what is the worst-kept secret in the state, Edward M. “Ted” Kennedy, Jr., will announce tomorrow night that he will seek the open 12th State Senate District seat, according to associates.
As the Eagle reported two weeks ago, Kennedy is gearing up to run for the office in a district that oversees six towns, including Branford, where he and his family reside. The other towns are Guilford, Madison, North Branford, Killingworth and a section of Durham. Five of the six towns, including Branford, are led by Republican first selectmen. Killingworth’s first selectwoman, Catherine Iino, is a Democrat.
The Kennedy, Jr., announcement takes place Tuesday, April 8 at 6 p.m. at the Blackstone Memorial Library auditorium. After a candidate announces his intention to seek elected office or incurs expenses to that end, a candidate has ten days to form a candidate’s committee and file with the state elections enforcement office. So far Kennedy has filed no papers, according to the secretary of the state’s office. Typically candidates do so soon after they announce, a state elections spokesman told the Eagle today.
Kennedy, Jr., 52, the Connecticut heir to the Kennedy dynasty, has been considering entering the world of public service, as he calls it, for a number of years, especially after his father, the late Massachusetts U.S. senator, became ill and asked him to seriously consider it. Until now Kennedy, Jr., has run a health-care consulting firm called the Marwood Group in New York City. But in an another signal he was considering elected office, in January Kennedy left his New York health firm to join the Stamford law firm of Epstein Becker Green. He is a partner in the firm’s health care and life sciences practice.
Kennedy Jr. announced two weeks ago he was seriously considering a run for the seat held State Sen. Ed Meyer, D‑Guilford, who is stepping down at the completion of his term this year. Meyer, 79, who has served the 12th District for the past decade, advocated for Kennedy’s candidacy last month. John Murphy, who has run many political campaigns, especially in Branford, is handling press questions.

Two weeks ago, Kennedy, Jr. told the Eagle that he was considering “the opportunity, but I want to first speak with civil and political leaders and neighbors to hear what they have to say.”
Kennedy predicted he would announce his decision within two weeks. That was two weeks ago today. So far there is no announced candidate on the Republican side.

Let's just get it over with: replace our constitutional democratic republic form of govt. with a dynastic monarchy. It obviously will be ruled jointly by the Royal Families of Clinton and Kennedy. Representative legislatures at state and federal levels will be replaced by judges who will create new laws and abolish existing laws based on their own personal preferences as well as the personal preferences of the Royal Families. We must quietly submit and accept reality: this, in fact, already is a fait accompli.
