Algernon Bullock

Algernon Al” Plummer Bullock of Hamden passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Hospital of St. Raphael. He was born in Apex, NC on January 29, 1948. He was the son of the late Hugh and Ruby McClain Bullock. He was educated in the New Haven School System and played basketball for Wilbur Cross High School where he was the Defensive Player of the Year. Upon graduating in 1966, he attended Lowell Columbia College in Washington. While in college, he was drafted by the US Army where he received an Honorable Discharge. Al attended South Central Community College while working as an Outreach Worker at Lee High School. His last employer was FYI International Fashions. He was an avid sports fan. Al leaves to mourn his passing; brothers and sisters, Thomas L. (Lou Willie) Bullock, Sr. of NC, Judy M. Brooks (Esaw) Seays of West Haven, Hugh (Lorraine) Bullock , Jr. of New Haven, Sondra C. (James) Mills, Sr. of Cheshire, Brenda Bullock (Wilbert) Gibson of Hamden; maternal uncle, Elton L. McClain of New Haven; nephews and nieces, Valencia Ford, Angela Wilkerson, Thomas Bullock, Jr., Hugh Bullock, III, Rosemary Brooks, Albert Brooks, Wanda Seymore, Erik Bullock, Keith Bullock, James Mills, Jr., several grand nieces and grand nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He also leaves, his former wife, Lauretta Raye of NC. A celebration of his life will take place Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at 10:00 AM at St. Paul UAME Church 1267 Chapel Street New Haven, CT. Friends may call Tuesday at the church from 9 – 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Hamden Plains Cemetery. To leave a message of comfort to the Bullock family, please visit www.hkhfuneralservices.com.
