Amelia Macklin, 99

Amelia Macklin, 99 of New Haven, passed into eternity on January 28, 2013.

Amelia was one of eight children born to Columbus and Eula Smith on September 25, 1913 in Northwest,(now Chesapeake) VA. After moving to New Haven, CT in 1947 and prior to becoming a teacher for the New Haven Public Schools, she was employed by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co., by the Yale Faculty Club, the U.S. Veterans Hospital in West Haven and the Children’s Center in Hamden. Attending Southern Connecticut State College, she received a B.S. and M.S. in Education and a 6th year Certificate in Phonics. She taught as a substitute and a full time teacher in New Haven. Her last assignment was at the Roberto Clemente Middle School from which she retired in 1990. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Saint Peter Claver. She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Fr. Eckley Macklin of WY, Stanley Macklin of New Haven; grand-daughter, Germaine Macklin; 4 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 9:30AM at St. Martin De Porres Church, 136 Dixwell Ave. New Haven, CT 06511. Friends may call, prior to the Mass from 8:30 – 9:30AM. Burial will take place at All Saints Cemetery, 700 Middletown Ave, North Haven, CT 06473.
