Billette Bennett (Muhammad), 53, of New Haven passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on April 17 after a brief illness.

Born on Feb. 23, 1964, Billette was a lifelong resident of New Haven. She was a member of Muhammad Mosque # 41 in Bridgeport and was employed at the Yale-New Haven Grimes Center in New Haven for the past 17 years.

Billette leaves to cherish her memory, beloved husband, Thomas Bennett Muhammad; sons, Joseph Penn and Aziz Muhammad; daughters, Carnetta (Thesmond) Bellamy and Malika Muhammad; grandchildren, Jaala, Bruce, A’mare, and Elijah; brothers, Christopher Penn, Percy Penn, Donnell Penn, Willie (Georgette) Penn, and Eddie Penn; sisters, Consuela Laurent, Carnetta Penn, and Markisha Penn; and a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones. She was predeceased by mother, Shirley Penn-Bustion and sister Hyacinthe Penn.

A Janaaza Prayer Service and Memorial will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at The New Trinity Temple Church, 285 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT 06511. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.
