Clarice H. Brown “Aunt Niecee” (91) passed away on January 14, 2013 after a brief illness while at Connecticut Hospice.
During her short illness she was surrounded by her family and friends. Clarice was a member of Varick AME Zion Church, 242 Dixwell Ave New Haven, CT where she worked many years with Varick Soup Kitchen, Christian Education Department, Progressive Club, Gospel Choir and a consecrated Deaconess. Clarice was the youngest child of the late Charles and Bessie Oliver. She leaves to treasure her memories niece Kathryn Thomas (John) of Hamden, CT, a Nephew Christopher Herbert of Portland, Maine, Special adopted family Gordon Smith, Joanna Vincent, William and Audrey Shelton. She was predeceased by four sisters and one brother. Dorothy Johnson, Alvina Wright, Florence Herbert, Solesta Potter and Charles Oliver. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to Varick AME Zion Church, Christian Education Department. Service will be held at Varick AME Zion Church, 242 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT on January 17, 2013. Friends may call prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00. Burial will be at Hamden Plains Cemetery.
Some of my most fond memories at Varick as a child are about Ms. Brown. She would bake us chocolate chip cookies after church every Sunday and was instrumental in the planning of Easter and Christmas festivities. Ms. Brown, you will be missed. May you rest in eternal peace.
