David Brantley Jr.

David Brantley Jr., 79, of New Haven, passed away March 20.

Born to the late Dave Sr. and Lucy Brantley in Picken, Ark., on February 17, 1932, David had a love for gardening, fishing for porgies and a talent for storytelling. He was retired from Eli Whitney Technical School, where he was a custodian for 35 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory: wife Lucille Brantley; sons Timothy (Denise) Brantley of Ellenwood, Ga., and Jack (Olivia) Brantley of Seymour; daughters Mildred Belton and Delores, Jacqueline and Lucinda Brantley, all of New Haven, Patricia (Steve) Gamble and Francine Barnes, both of Greeleyville, SC; brothers James (Melody) and Herman (Veronica) Brantley, both of New Haven, Napoleon Brantley of West Haven, and Oscar and Butch Bullard, both of Arkansas; sisters Versie Johnson of McGhee, Ark., Dorothy Thomas of St. Louis, Mo., and Dorothy Bullard of Arkansas; 25 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a son, David Brantley III, four brothers and four grandchildren.

A celebration of life will take place on Monday March 28, at 11 a.m. at Union Temple UFW Baptist Church, 54 Platt St., New Haven. Friends may call Monday at the church from 9 – 11 a.m. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
