Emanuel A. Stanfield, 79

Emanuel A. Stanfield, 79, of New Haven, passed away Sept. 29, 2017. 

He was born in Atlanta, Ga. to the late Alexander and Ophelia Respert Stanfield on July 2, 1938. 

Emanuel served honorably in the U.S. Army. In 1958, he pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. He was an educator in the New Haven Public School System for over 35 years, and retired as a principal. Emanuel enjoyed playing baseball; showing his athleticism with the Philadelphia Stars and the military league. He was known locally as DJ Stan the Man and made sure everyone had a good time on the dance floor.

Emanuel leaves to cherish his memory, loving wife, Lillian Tiny” Nelson Stanfield; son, Alphonso Stanfield; daughters, Bridgette (Dion, Sr.) Golatt and Brina (Greg) Mallard; sister, Patricia Respert (Vern) Moses; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Lorenza Stanfield. 

A celebration of his life will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bethel AME Church, 255 Goffe St, New Haven, CT 06511. Friends may call Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. Interment will be private. Services by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St, New Haven, CT 06511. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to ALS Research.
