Emmalynne Stewart, 73

Emmalynne Emily” Katherine Stewart, 73, of New Haven, passed away on January 26, 2013.

Emily was born to the late Maurice Jimmy Stewart and Esther (Tomico) Stewart on August 3, 1939 in Derby, CT. Emily attended New Haven Public Schools and graduated from New Hampshire College with a B.A. in Human Services. She worked as a Legal Assistance Investigator, where Hillary Clinton trained/interned under her instruction. She then became a Liason Officer (a position she created) in the State Public Defenders Office. In 1974 Emily began her career with the State of CT Department of Corrections and became the first black female Correction Officer to work in an all male facility. She was also the longest reigning Executive board member of the Brass Keys Organization. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Tracey Lynn LaFrazier of New Haven; sons, Keith Everett Johnson of Rocky Hill, Craig Stephen Johnson of New Haven; sister, Mary Ann Stewart of New Haven; A very special friend, Janet Skeeta” Russell of SC.; 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by, loving husband, Rev. Ellsworth Benjamin LaFrazier; step-mother, Mildred Wentworth; daughter, Kim Charmaine Johnson; brother, William Billy” Wentworth and 1 grandson . A Celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 11AM at Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church, 806 Orchard St. New Haven, CT 06511. Friends may call Saturday from 9 – 11AM at the church. Interment will be private. To leave a message of comfort for the Stewart family, please visit www.hkhfuneralservices.com.
