Gloria Irene Hamilton entered into a peaceful rest on June 2. Born into the family of the late John F. and Lola P. Downing on Oct. 18, 1954, in Troy, Ala., she was one of seven children.
Gloria accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of Bethel Temple C.O.G.I.C., where she served faithfully as an usher, senior bookkeeper, and president of the choir. She also enjoyed singing in the choir and supporting the mission of the church. Her outgoing personality endeared her to everyone she met.
Lovingly celebrating her life are her husband, Leroy Hamilton, Sr.; sons Leroy Hamilton, Jr. (Erica), Alvin J. Hamilton, and Corinthian S. Hamilton; grandchildren Dyniece C. Hamilton, Alvin J. Hamilton III, Leroy Hamilton III, and Erin N. Hamilton; a brother, Johnnie L. Downing; a sister, Alma J. Nelson; a brother-in-law, Henry (Eleanor) Hamilton; a sister-in-law, Margie Downing; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, June 9, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church of God, 135 Winthrop Ave. Friends and family may call at the church on Thursday from 10 – 11 a.m. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
