James Thigpen, 73

Mr. James E. Thigpen, age 73, was a resident of New Haven, departed this life on Thursday, April 19, 2012 after a brief illness at Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT.

He was born in Greenville, North Carolina on January 29, 1939. He was the son of the Late Amos and Flossie Carmon Thigpen. He attended public school in Winterville, North Carolina. After relocating to Connecticut along with his brothers and sisters, he has been employed by Sargent Manufacturing Company in New Haven, the former Leonard Schwartz Nissan, Inc in West Haven, CT, and more recently was employed by the Late Wendell Harp of New Haven. Mr. Thigpen leaves to cherish his memories five daughters, Ruby Lee Ross, Maybelline Ross, Louvine Sprears, Shacora and Colonia Thigpen all of New Haven, CT; brothers, Preston E. Thigpen of New Haven and William Isaac Thigpen of Hamden; along with sisters Mattie Sims of Harrisburg, PA and Sylvia Betty Moore of Hamden, CT; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by brothers, Edgar, Matthew, and Amos Thigpen; and sisters, Ida L. Atkinson, Lucy Cox, Ethel Joyner; and one grandchild, Daniel Moore, Jr. James cherished his family above all else and he will live on in their memories and hearts. A celebration of his life will take place on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 7PM at The New Trinity Temple COGIC, 285 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT 06511. Calling hours at the church on Friday from 5 – 7PM.
