John Lee Hopkins

John Lee Hopkins, 70, of New Haven, departed this life January 15, 2011. He was the widower of Mae West Hopkins.

Born in Bethel, NC, January 26, 1940, he was the son of the late Henry and Millie Hopkins.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Hopkins was employed at Yale University as a General Services Attendant.

He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Hopkins; a son, Darrell Hopkins; a brother, Henry Hopkins, Jr.; a sister, Margaret Hopkins; grandchildren, Bryon A. and Shamon Welch and Larry Wiggins; a great grandchild; an aunt, Bertha Lee Staton; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by a son, Anthony Hopkins; brothers, John T. Bullock and Isaac, David and Willie Mack Hopkins; and a sister, Helen Hopkins Brown.

A celebration of Mr. Hopkins’ life and legacy will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011, at 9:00 AM at Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 100 Webster St., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 8:00 – 9:00 AM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Professional services entrusted to Curvin K.
