Levone Gilbert, Sr., of New Haven, passed away Jan, 8, 2017.
He was born in Erwin, N.C. to the late Carson and Aldina McLean Gilbert. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force and worked as a truck driver for the U.S. Postal Service. Levone served as president of the local 6132 United Steel Workers of America and was a member of Laborers Union 455.
Levone leaves to cherish his memory, devoted wife, Rosa Drayton Gilbert; daughter, Sandra (Donald) Harrison; son, Levone (Marguerie) Gilbert, II; granddaughter, Amber Harrison; grandsons, Donald Harrison and Levone Gilbert, III; brothers, Carson Gilbert and Charles (Sandra) Gilbert; sisters, Mary Gilbert and Betty Smith; childhood friend, Tyrone Holiday; and a host of relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will take place Jan. 13, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel St., New Haven, CT 06511. Friends may call Friday at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment will be at Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven, CT. Services by Howard K.
