Mary Ellen Jackson, 90

Mary Ellen Jackson, 90, of New Haven, departed this life May 20. She was the widow of James E. Jackson.

Born in Bryantown, Md., on Jan. 29, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Grant Lee Thomas and Ida Moriah Warrington Thomas. Prior to retiring, she was a preschool teacher.

Mrs. Jackson is survived by a daughter, Judith A. Edwards; a stepson, Joseph Jackson (Christine); a stepdaughter, Althea Jackson Tyson; grandchildren Danika Mackey (Calvin), Donyel Edwards, Karen Gatison and Erica Bradley (Frankie); great grandchildren Mallory Gatison, Torrell Heyward, Jaiden McMorris and Zaria Bradley; a son in-law, Nelson Gatison; a goddaughter, Ann Reynolds; five step-grandchildren, a step-great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by daughters Jacqueline Jackson and Geraldine Gatison; stepsons James Jackson, Jr. and Jerome Jackson; sisters Victoria Hammie, Margie Forbes and Hazel Butler; and a step-grandson, Ricky Tyson.

A celebration of Mrs. Jackson’s life and legacy will be held Thursday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held from 10 – 11 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. An online guestbook is available at www.curvinkcouncil.com.
