Mattie Ruth Lemont, 82, transitioned to paradise on Nov. 2, 2016 after a long illness. She was 82 years of age.
Mattie was the daughter of Beaulah Calloway Dinkins and Calloway Dinkins. She was born Mattie Ruth Dinkins in Walden, Ga., on June 30, 1934. She is predeceased by her husband Gary Lemont; former husband Garland McClam; her parents; one brother, Elijah Dinkins; sons, Theodore David McClam and Michael Matthew McClam; and her childhood best friend, Gloria Jean Inge.
A devoted wife and mother, she was married to Garland McClam for 19 years, during which she raised five children prior to his death. She was married to the late Gary Lemont for 28 years.
Mattie leaves to cherish her memory sisters, Margaret (Renny) Powell and Beaulah (Tony) Tilley; brother, Daniel James Tilley; son, Garland Andrew McClam; daughters, Aleta Elaine McClam Staton and Laura Ann McClam (Stuart) Williams; grandchildren, Mario Pina, Tia Russell (James) Brockington, and Jade Aleta Staton; great-grandchildren, Monasia, Tamyra and Shaymell Pina, Marli Johnson, and Londyn Beaux Brockington; great-great grandchild Shaymell, Pina, Jr.; in addition to a host of nephews, nieces, friends and associates.
A celebration of life will be held Nov. 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Dixwell Avenue Congregational United Church of Christ, 217 Dixwell Ave., New Haven, CT 06511.
