Minnie Carr, 71

Minnie Carr, 71, of New Haven, wife of the late Edward Carr, passed away November 3, 2011 at home.

Born in Georgetown, SC, December 9, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mariah Elder.

She was a licensed Beautician and was employed at US Repeating Arms and Pratt & Whitney. Mrs. Carr was also a foster parent at Boys and Girls Village, CRI of Southington and was employed as a CNA at VNS at the time of her death.

She was a faithful member of Union Temple FWB Church for more than fifty years under the leadership of Rev. Herman Epps, where she served on the Usher Board, Missionary Board and the Epps Chorus.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory two sons, Ernest Carr (Carol) and Chris Carr; a daughter, Vanessa Carr; a brother, James Elder (Aurelia); sisters, Lillie Mae Pyatt and Diana Walker; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two adopted children, Lamont Ward and Michele Green-Barham; a special niece, Maudest Walker Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by sons, Kurt and Phillip Carr; brothers, William, Zack, Andrew and Joseph Elder; and sisters, Jannie Swinton and Margie Elder.
A celebration of Mrs. Carr’s life will be held Thursday, November 10, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. at Union Temple Church, 54 Platt St. (corner of Elm St.), New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. Burial will be Saturday in Georgetown, SC. Professional services entrusted to Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven.
