Darryl Jermell DJ” Anderson, died suddenly, July 14, 2007, in Raleigh, NC. Born in New Haven, CT, December 17, 1984, he was the beloved son of Patrilla Smoakes-Harris of New Haven and Darryl C. Anderson of Raleigh, NC. Besides his parents, he leaves to mourn his passing his fiance, Kennisha Brown; a brother, Alphonso Smoakes; a sister, Shanelle Anderson; a sister in-law, Tyshi Williamson; his grandmothers, Patricia Smoakes and Essie Anderson; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Vernell Smoakes and Calvin Anderson; his stepfather, Leonard Cobbs and his daughter, Jamaya Mercedes Anderson. Mr. Reeves was born in Branchville, SC on September 14, 1922 the son of the late Harry and Carrie Reeves. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Hector and Nevil Bernard and Junior, Lewis and Alexandrina Logan. Army Specialist Andre Craig, Jr., 24, of Rosette St., New Haven, CT, departed this life on Monday June 25, 2007 at 10:26 am due to wounds sustained when the vehicle in which he was riding was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED), while serving in Baghdad. Craig, a graduate of Wilbur Cross High School, was a light infantryman assigned to Company Bravo, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. He was deployed to Iraq in March of 2007. Craig, whose nickname Dre”, was known for his caring and humorous ways, he also loved his family. Andre was born on June 18, 1983, to Andre, Sr. and Joyce Craig and leaves wife, Shawntia Ventura Craig, daughter Taylor Marcel Craig; brothers Michael Cook, Jonathan and Matthew Craig, Andre Brown and Julian Russell; sisters Valencia Cook, Debra Russell, and Nashimma Williams, all of New Haven; grandmothers Annie Bee King of Roanoke, VA; step-grandmother, Eva Payne of New Haven and Betty Simmons, of Birmingham, AL; godfather, Erik Brown of New Haven; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends; he was predeceased by grandmother; great grandmother Ida Reynolds, Nettie Foster, grandfather George Cook and Almer Godwin. Born in New Haven, October 23, 1988, he was the son of Victoria Coward Levine and Winston D. Levine. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Marquese Prescott; sisters, Tai’la, Tai’ronda and Sade’ Levine; his maternal grandfather, General Bishop Arlester Coward; his maternal step-grandmother, Lillie M. Coward; paternal grandparents, Gloria G. Johnson and Robert Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Mildred Coward.

Bishop Aaron Gore a lifelong New Haven resident, pastor of the New Bethlehem U.F.W. Baptist Church for 34 years and presiding Bishop of the Northern New England Conference of the U.F.W. Baptist Churches Inc., transitioned peacefully with family by his side on Monday June 11, 2007 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a long illness.
He was the son of Marie S. Gore and the late Arlander Gore. He was married to the late Peggy (Williams) Gore. To their union three children were born; Maria Gore, Aaron (Andrea) Gore, Jr., and Brian K. (Marta) Gore. He was blessed of his offspring with five grandchildren: twins Brittany and Briana Gore, Erin Alexandra Gore, Kayla Christine and Vernon Kendall, Jr. and Brian Bostick. In the past he served as chairman of the Newhallville Cooperative Housing Corp. for two years. In his capacity, as Senior Pastor he was not only a Pastor, but a bridge builder and a humanitarian. Under his leadership he orchestrated an emergency shelter, clothing distribution center, and Soup Kitchen in the Hill neighborhood. His passionate commitment to spread the Word of God continued unabated, despite various struggles. Throughout his ministry, Bishop Gore used his strong personality and eloquent oratory to spearhead the doctrine of Christ.
A Homegoing Celebration of Bishop Gore’s life and legacy will be held Monday, June 18, 2007 at 10:00 am at St. Matthew’s UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Etheleen Edwards, 75, of 730 George Street, Apt. 404, New Haven, CT died of congestive heart and renal kidney failure at the Hospital of Saint Raphael on Friday, June 15, 2007. A resident of New Haven, CT for approximately 60 years she was born in Hookerton Township, Greene County, NC on May 9, 1932. She worked for Majestic Laundry, Hospital of St. Raphael, and the Hill Health Center. She volunteered at the Community Action Agency, Inc. where she delivered Meals-on-Wheels. Additionally, she served on the board of the Mutual Housing Agency for the building where she resided to ensure resident’s concerns were addressed. She worked hard and she partied just as hard. She was truly the life of any party and will be dearly missed. She is survived by son, Edward George Edwards, daughter (great-niece whom she raised) Min. Lynette E. Johnson, (2) grand-daughters Tanisha M. Hill and Shahidah Edwards, grand-son James H. Hill, III; (4) great-grandchildren Imani Hill, Maryah, Enasj and Enico Jones, Jr. and best-friend Margaret Howlett all of New Haven, CT; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. David A. Talley, 54, of New Haven, departed this life June 11, 2007. Born in New Haven, CT, October 4, 1952, he was the son of the late Clarence A. and Mamie L. Talley.
Mr. Talley was employed by the US Postal Service as a Letter Carrier.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a son, David Gay (Latoya); a daughter Tara Alford (James), a brother, Jerome Talley (Mary); sisters, Linda Sylvia, Bernestine Talley and Delores McQueen (Ira); five grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Talley, Jr.

Leronia Murray Scott

Leronia Murray Scott, 85, of New Haven, died June 8, 2007 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the widow of Albert Scott and daughter of the late Lula Mae Coleman.
Mrs. Scott is survived by her grandchildren, Stephanie and Michael Rogers of Silver Springs, MD, Suhair Hoskie (Muhammad) of Charlotte, NC and Tiffany Williams of Fayetteville, NC; 13 great grandchildren; other family members, Paula Jeffers, Sharon Gambrell and Leroy Spruill of New Haven, Avon Johnson of Hamden, Ricardo Spruill of New York; and a host of other relatives, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Scott was predeceased by a son, Rasool Muhammad (Herbert Rogers); a sister, Mary E. Spruill; two brothers, Joseph and Luther Coleman; and a nephew, David L. Spruill.
